Q: How is this program different from others:

We recognize that weight loss is multifactorial and we have designed a program to take into account different facets of undesirable weight.

Q: What are the different factors in weight loss?

While diet is important, so is exercise and life style or stress management. We focus on improving your diet, not just with a focus to weight loss but also to impacting your health. Our focus is also on mobilizing clients toward routine exercise. We realize that many overweight people are sedentary and on a return to exercise may injure them selves. With obesity and sedentary lifestyles, also come increased joint pains and injuries as well as osteoarthritis. In light of this our exercise professionals are physical therapists who will instruct you in healthy exercise while preserving joint health. Our life coaches and path facilitators will lead the session on stress management encouraging clients to incorporate healthy techniques into their weight management program.

Q: Can I work with these professionals on an individual basis?

The program is designed to be effective in a group atmosphere except for the 2 individual sessions identified. If there is additional work to be done or areas of concern identified by the facilitator and the client, The client may elect to work with our weight loss professionals in addition to the ongoing program.

Q: Is this program covered by insurance?

While NIMA does not bill insurance for this program, many aspects of the program can be insurance reimburseable. Properly coded HCFA forms will be provided to participants who elect to pursue insurance reimbursement.

Q: Is there any other benefit that can help financially?

On April 2, 2002, the IRS announced ruling 2002-19, which makes the expenses of your physician supervised bariatric program tax-deductible. To learn more about the new IRS policy go to http://www.obesity.org/subs/tax/taxguide.shtml.
You may also consult with your accountant about this.  In addition Flexible spending accounts will consider this an eligible program. Verify with your Human Resources Staff.
